When I founded Jeneration PR in 2005, I wasn’t even sure I would make it past the first year. Now, fast-forward 10 years, and we’re celebrating this huge milestone of a full decade in business. I can hardly believe it! All year, we’ll be taking a fun look back on the last decade, and sharing our flash-backs using our hashtag #JENERAT10N.
This seemed like a good time to reflect on the amazing experiences I’ve had, and share my top 10 moments in honor of our Anniversary.
Here we go…
10. Securing my very first press mention, in inTouch magazine
This little feature set off my whole desire to leave my career as a lawyer and start my own PR firm. I was still working full-time as a lawyer and promoting this fragrance brand on the side, unpaid. I loved the work so much it served as the catalyst for me to take the leap and start Jeneration PR, in March 2005!
9. Working at the Official backstage lounge at Independent Spirit Awards, and getting to meet Nicole Kidman, Anna Kendrick, and Kerry Washington.
Olivia Pope taught me everything I know…
8. Sitting in the VIP seats at the Oprah Winfrey Show as a guest of one of the producers.
I was able to bring a client with me to Chicago, and was so proud when we were ushered to the front of the studio for our seats. It was a great episode, and we got to see a pregnant & glowing Halle Berry. Truly stunning in person!
7. Having TWO clients on The Ellen Degeneres Show and one on the TODAY Show, all on the same day!
After several years of running my business, I had three clients on National TV, all on the same day. In the morning, I watched my client from Hostess with the Mostess make her TODAY Show debut (she nailed it!), and in the afternoon, I took two of my clients, Little Giraffe & Puj, to the Ellen Degeneres Show to watch their products on the coveted “Mother’s Day Giveaway” episode. As I’m sitting in the Green Room at Warner Bros with both of my clients, watching Ellen rave about their products in front of millions of people, I had a moment where I thought, “Wow… I guess it’s not just ‘dumb luck’ anymore. This is a pretty incredible day!”
6. Being selected by Babble.com as one of the “Top 10 Mompreneurs Who Made it Big!“
5. Sharing my story through some amazing press features about Jeneration PR
…including the New York Times, Entrepreneur Magazine, Huffington Post, PR Week, LA Times, Fox 11 News, and more.
4. Getting profiled by Apple.com
This was an absolutely incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Apple marketing team followed me around Los Angeles for 2 days to see how I used my iPhone as a publicist “on-the-go,” then they created a super-slick video montage of me, along with an interview, and posted it on the Apple website. Being recognized by Apple’s marketing team was one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me, and I received several business referrals from my company profile on the Apple website!
3. Receiving a dream home office makeover by HGTV
I am a HUGE fan of HGTV and I was so excited to be surprised by a camera crew at my house telling me I was getting “HGTV’d!” Our bonus room, that also serves as my office, received a “No Expenses Spared” dream makeover by a surprise designer. When I walked in, my jaw dropped! I felt like I was in a chic boutique hotel, and honestly could not believe that this was my house! I now get to work in this gorgeous room every single day and I feel so lucky & inspired being in this special space created for just me.
2. The birth of each of my two children, who were both born while I was running Jeneration.
These guys make me so happy & proud. I’m one lucky momma!
1. The moment I realized that I can do this for as long as I want, and I would never have to go back to law. Ever again.
What an incredible decade it’s been. Every day, I feel grateful to be able to work for myself in a career that I love, supporting brands I truly believe in. I work hard, but have a flexible schedule where I can be there for my children and my husband. This has truly been a “dream job” for me.
A special “Thank You” to my biggest cheerleader, my amazing husband Kevin, for always believing in me, supporting me and making me feel like I can do it all (and understanding when I can’t). I could never have made it on this journey without you.
Thank you all for your continued support throughout the last ten years. Here’s to many more to come…
Cheers,
